About Me

 Meet Tim Deng

My basketball journey has significantly shaped the person I am today. Transitioning from track and field to basketball during my sophomore year of high school marked a pivotal moment. Despite initial setbacks, including being cut from both the High School JV team and the local recreation high school team due to my lack of experience, I used these rejections as fuel to improve.

Determined to enhance my skills, I dedicated countless hours to training, even braving the winter elements to practice outdoors. Persistence paid off during junior year tryouts when I made the JV team. Progressing steadily, I secured a spot on the varsity team senior year. Although we had a successful season that culminated in a playoff semifinal appearance, being a bench player, I was not able to showcase my skills to any college recruiters. However, I did not let this stop me from pursuing college basketball.

My collegiate journey led me to Newbury College in the spring of 2017, where under Coach Fazi's mentorship, I flourished. Despite a challenging season that fell short of playoffs, I honed my skills and gained invaluable experience at the college level. The following season saw me appointed as team captain, marking my first expedition into leadership. This role pushed me to develop confidence in decision-making and team management, with unwavering support from Coach Fazi and the coaching staff.

Amidst a successful season, the unexpected news of Newbury College's impending closure brought the team closer together, fostering a remarkable playoff run that defied all expectations. Despite a hard-fought championship game ending in defeat, the journey and unity displayed throughout the season opened the door for us to continue pursuing our collegiate careers elsewhere. My coach, teammate, and I were featured in a news article titled “The Last Fight Of The Newbury Nighthawks” by Esteban Bustillos. The article covers our Cinderella run in the playoffs and also how the impending closing of Newbury College affected student-athletes. Home Care Occupation

My current occupation, home care is a job that I feel offers numerous benefits, especially when it comes to enhancing their quality of life. One of the key advantages is the ability to take clients into the community and involve them in events like the Special Olympics. This not only provides them with opportunities for social interaction and physical activity but also fosters a sense of inclusion and belonging.

As someone who works in home care, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that community involvement can have on my clients. By participating in community events and sports leagues, they can showcase their abilities, build confidence, and form meaningful connections with others.

Personally, I have volunteered for the Avatar Residential basketball team for the Rhode Island Special Olympics. This experience has been incredibly rewarding, as I've had the privilege of supporting and cheering on athletes as they showcase their skills and determination on the court. Moments like these highlight the importance of community engagement in enhancing the lives of people with disabilities.

My Focus

I am a Johnson & Wales University graduate, with a degree in Business Management. As I prepare to enter the business field, I am enthusiastic about leveraging my skills and knowledge to excel in marketing positions as well. My goal is to explore innovative strategies for selling products in our rapidly evolving technological landscape. I aspire to eventually transition into management roles, where I can continue to drive growth and success for organizations.
